While development capabilities are becoming more and more essential within companies, coding experts don’t feel good about their profession. But “Full Stack” visibility tools promise to get them back to their core business…
In an increasingly “digital” world, the work of programmers is gaining more and more importance. The activity, competitiveness and income of all organizations, public and private, today increasingly depend on the innovation, speed of development, and the quality of the code of their developers.
That’s why Cisco gave them a voice through a study of 500 coding experts. A global study conducted in April 2024 that follows the pulse of this profession.
The first impression that emerges from this document is the sense of pressure felt by the vast majority of interviewed developers. 85% of them say their organizations are pushing them to increase production speed. And just under 77% say they need to offer increasingly seamless digital experiences.
And yet, those same developers admit they can’t pursue such goals because too much of their energy today is devoted to helping IT professionals maintain good application performance and availability. Almost 57% spend their time in reactive mode (debugging, crisis unit meetings, research mode during performance issues, etc.)
A situation that causes a strong sense of frustration in 82% of developers, which leads to demotivation in code experts (72% think it’s a waste of time). As many as 54% say they are ready to leave their jobs.
THE ” FullStack » for a global vision
For developers, the solution would be for IT experts to have a unique vision of the information system,IT Stack’ which would provide them with global visibility of IS availability, performance and security levels over time. With such tools, there is no longer a need to look for the skills of developers (application design and development) to solve IT problems, and this would greatly reduce their daily work.
So much time that they could reuse it for their own chapel by innovating and offering new functionalities. Therefore, 90% of them advocate that ” The whole series Noticeability » (FSO) as essential for organizations to deliver seamless digital experiences.
With such a tool, IT teams could finally have a complete and unified view of their applications and support stack. Today, for 67% of developers, their company or public organization does not have the right tools (too often several tools stacked in silo mode).
Therefore, it is impossible for them to benefit from a sufficiently global vision to understand the origin of problems in the application and to solve them effectively. 75% believe that a lack of insight into IT performance increases the chances that their organization will one day experience downtime or that critical applications will be disrupted.
AI, essential process
39% of surveyed developers believe that artificial intelligence can only be useful for automating application problem detection and resolution. AI gives IT teams the ability to process large amounts of data to identify problems and even solve them in real time.
Collaborate to manage better
Finally, just over half of developers (57%) believe that collaboration between IT and Dev teams can only be beneficial. Note that SLT, DevOps, and DevSecOps are all methodologies that are already moving in this direction.
