The current iPad lineup is one of the most extensive we’ve seen. It includes two iterations of the standard iPad, the iPad mini, the iPad Air, and the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. It seems that Apple is not stopping there: rumors suggest that an even larger iPad Pro could be added to the range. Here’s everything we know about the next-generation iPad Pro, including rumors about the 14-inch model.
Additionally, we’ve heard that it’s possible that a new aluminum Magic Keyboard will launch alongside the M3 iPad Pro.
Will there be a 14-inch iPad Pro?
The larger screen iPad rumor was started by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in June 2021. He stated thatApple has been thinking about making iPads with larger screensbut that we shouldn’t expect anything for a few years.
AND leakage called Majin Bu also hinted at a new 14.1-inch iPad Pro was under development.
Display Analyst Ross Young also claimed in 2022 that a 14.1-inch iPad Pro was in the works and that “early 2023.” probable release schedule. The tweet appears to have been deleted, but he initially tweeted the following on June 9, 2022:
“Confirmation that the 14.1-inch iPad Pro is in development with our suppliers. It will be equipped with MiniLED and ProMotion. We are not sure of the schedule, but the beginning of 2023 is more likely”. Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) June 9, 2022
The 2023 edition is no longer planned today. In December 2022, Young reportedly changed this prediction, suggesting that “Apple no longer plans to launch a 14.1-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display in early 2023.” via Macrumors. Young goes on to say that Apple no longer plans to release a new 14.1-inch format, so it may never see the light of day.
With release from Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro on iPadit makes perfect sense that Apple would offer an iPad with a larger screen and support for external displays.
iPad Pro M3 release date
It looks like the new iPad Pro won’t be until 2024. In January 2023, Gurman said thatno major updates are planned for iPad in 2023and that the iPad Pro “certainly won’t get anything significant this year”
Most rumors now point to 2024 for the iPad Pro redesign, which could include a 14-inch model alongside the 11- and 12-inch models, or perhaps the 14-inch model will replace one of the other two.
To get some clues as to when Apple might launch the new iPad Pro, we can look at previous launches, keeping in mind that Apple has not been consistent with launch windows for previous models.
- iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch (6th generation): October 2022
- iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch (5th generation): April 2021
- iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch (4th generation): March 2020
- iPad Pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch (3rd generation): October 2018
- iPad Pro 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch (2nd generation): June 2017
- iPad Pro 9.7-inch (1st Gen): March 2016
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st gen.): November 2015
Based on this, we could see the new iPad Pro around April 2024.
How much will the next iPad Pro cost?
Right now, here are the starting prices for each model iPad Pro.
- iPad Pro 11-inch Wi-Fi (2022): €1,069
- iPad Pro 11-inch mobile phone (2022): €1,269
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch Wi-Fi (2022): €1,469
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch mobile phone (2022): €1,669
If Apple releases a larger 14-inch iPad Pro, prices are likely to rise. Therefore, we expect the 14-inch iPad Pro to start with a price higher than 1,469 euros.
Pricing for the rest of the lineup will depend on whether Apple continues to sell all models. Apple could offload the 11-incher and lower the price of the 12.9-incher, or vice versa.
Mini-LED screen for iPad Pro?
There is some disagreement about what display technology will be offered.
Analyst Ross Young originally suggested in June 2022 that the 14-inch iPad Pro would have a mini-LED display, just like the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro. But in a tweet later that month, he noted that the larger iPad will instead have a standard LED display, like the 11-inch iPad Pro, citing price as a possible reason.
Then, in December 2022, Young hinted that Apple was planning switch the entire iPad range to OLED by 2024. This matches what Gurman wrote (in January 2023). He predicted that the iPad will arrive in the spring of 2024 with an “updated design and OLED displays.”
Reportedly, according to market research firm Omdia, the iPad Pro could receive OLED updates by 2024. Eyes1122 claims that Apple is in talks with LG, Samsung and Chinese companies for active matrix OLED (AMOLED).
Apple is also reportedly working on its own micro-LED displays, which could eventually be integrated into the new, larger iPad. Gurman also wrote in January that Apple will begin transitioning its entire lineup to micro-LED displays, starting with the Apple Watch.
What specifications for the next iPad Pro?
Before deleting your Twitter account, leakage Analyst941 has indicated that Apple plans to release the next iPad Pro with external support for dual 6K monitors running at 60Hz, the potential inclusion of the M3 Pro chip, as well as a “special version of iPadOS 17” currently in development for the larger Pro models. However, a covert operation reportedly put an end to the leak, which cast a shadow over some of their predictions for the upcoming 14-inch iPad Pro.
The current iPad Pro has an M2 chip, so it makes sense for the M3 to appear in the 2024 models. However, we don’t think the M3 Pro is a likely option, as the Pro versions of Apple’s chips are only available on the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini so far. inches, and the M2 chip in the iPad Pro already provides more power than it needs. Additionally, due to the thin design of the iPad, it seems more reasonable to have the standard M3 at the heart of the 14-inch iPad Pro.
A June 2022 tweet from Majin Buu suggested that the 14-inch iPad Pro would have an M2 processor, 16GB of RAM, and at least 512GB of storage. We only expect to see the M2 in the 14-inch iPad Pro if it launches separately from the rest of the lineup.
A new keyboard?
Mark Gurman stated in the September newsletter thatApple has planned a new aluminum Magic Keyboard with a larger touchpadwhich would be released at the same time as the iPad Pro M3.
As you can see, there has been no shortage of rumors and speculation about the next-generation iPad Pro, but not much concrete yet. We will update this article as new details emerge.
