App Store: Phil Schiller admits that alternative payment methods are underused

For 15 days, Apple is back in court in California due to the financial conditions it imposes on developers in the App Store.

The question being studied by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers is whether what was necessary was done to induce developers to use non-Apple payment systems. Considering the first days of the hearing, the judge did not seem convinced. This is all the more irritating because she herself was the one who created it permanent ban, 2021, forcing Apple to rethink its practices. They were supposed to officially come into force last January.

The court case between Epic Games and Apple ended with the victory of the latter, but it was not complete. Judge Gonzalez Rogers forced Apple to allow developers to display links to non-Apple payment systems in their apps. Only so-called reading applications (consultations and content reading) are eligible.
