On the occasion of the Build 2024 conference taking place this week, Microsoft introduced a new member to the endless list of its “Copilot” AI: Team Copilot. Not to be confused with “Copilot for Teams”, Team Copilot is a virtual assistant who is not “personal” to you, but is there to help your entire team and act as a full member of it.
Microsoft’s Build conference is primarily intended for developers. Unsurprisingly, a day after the landmark launch of the “Copilot+ PC” era, Microsoft once again made AI the central theme of its conference. With a wealth of tools and models that enable developers to incorporate more and more AI into their applications and imagine endless AI use cases in the cloud and computing.
But the publisher also took the opportunity to introduce one of its new AIs in the pipeline, useful for all teams within companies (not just development teams).
Her name is ” Team co-pilot “, a name that is ultimately more descriptive, but may lead to confusion with “Copilot for Teams”, the AI integrated into Microsoft Teams for Teams Premium or Microsoft Copilot 365 subscribers.
Team Copilot brings AI to the heart of business collaboration. This AI is actually an extension of Copilot for Microsoft 365 or more precisely a new experience within the Copilot for Microsoft 365 offering.
With Team Copilot, every team within the company will be able to benefit from a virtual assistant who acts as a real, full member to make their daily work easier.
In particular, Team Copilot will intervene directly in collaboration applications such as Teams, Loop or Planner. This AI assistant can, for example, lead meetings by managing the agenda and capturing notes available to all participants for real-time collaborative editing. In group discussions, he will highlight the most important information, follow up on actions to be taken and make sure that the issues raised are resolved.
But the real added value of Team Copilot lies in its project management capabilities. Like a careful and responsible project manager, they will create and assign tasks, monitor compliance with deadlines, and seek input from team members when their input is necessary. Enough to ensure optimal progress for any current or future project.
With Team Copilot, Microsoft is taking a new step in its vision of an AI personal assistant by now evolving into a virtual team member and integrating it a little deeper not only into productivity and collaboration tools, but also into team processes to increase their efficiency tenfold.
