Swiss watchmaking is in many respects a special case. From a management point of view, this is a textbook case. And it is quite possible that the turning point was reached with the appointment of Nicolas Bos a week ago to the general management of Richemont, based in Geneva. He has been at the head of Van Cleef & Arpels since 2013, and will assume his new position on June 1. A promotion that will generate a whole series of detours within the brands of the luxury group. We expect a nice succession of musical chairs, but for now it’s still all speculation, and Richemont probably won’t communicate officially (the group doesn’t communicate on a brand level).
In turmoil will be the question of appointing a new boss at Van Cleef & Arpels, the position left vacant by the ascension of Nicolas Bos to the “reestablished position of chief executive officer” (this is the exact term used in the press release). It is impossible to rationally set an ideal candidate profile. On the other hand, what is certain is that the demands are high and the understanding with Nicolas Bosa must be complete: he knows the house inside out, and Van Cleef & Arpels is one of the leading brands of Richemont, second only to Cartier. The person who succeeds him will undoubtedly be appointed internally, which is the path the group largely prefers. Which means the replacement itself will have to be replaced.
