The national office of the National Federation of Café and Restaurant Owners of Morocco (FNPCRM) held a meeting with the Competition Council on Thursday, May 23, to resolve a dispute between them following the opening of an investigation into a suspected illegal agreement to increase consumption prices.
An FNPCRM source indicated that the two sides discussed several points, including the sudden fluctuations in raw material prices and their impact on the sector’s competitiveness. The FNPCRM office informed the competition council about the sector’s structural problems, exacerbated by recent price increases, especially coffee prices, which have reached unprecedented levels on the national market.
Both sides confirmed their willingness to cooperate in order to preserve the price balance on the market. The same source points out that the FNPCRM office informed the Council about the outlines of the draft law that regulates the sector that it intends to submit to the Parliament in order to reduce or end the disorder plaguing the corporation of cafes and restaurants in Croatia. At the same time, a member of the office indicated that “FNPCRM is aware of the importance of the law on freedom of prices and market competition and all rules that are contrary to it. As a result, the office alerted all regional, provincial and local branches to these rules“.

The Council for the Protection of Market Competition indicated last April that “preliminary investigations carried out by its services revealed the existence of certain elements that show that the owners of cafes and restaurants studied the possibility of increasing the prices of drinks“.
The Council warned them that the provisions of the Law on Freedom of Prices and Market Competition prohibit all planned actions, agreements and explicit or implicit alliances in all forms with the aim of hindering free market competition.
