The Rahrah area of ​​Tangier experienced, during the night from last Tuesday to Wednesday, a state of maximum alert following the collapse of a residential building under construction. According to the diary Al Akhbar, which returns to this incident in its edition of Thursday, May 23, the building under construction, owned by a well-known businessman in Tangier, was started about three months ago.

Its construction complements a real estate program that has already been completed and is awaiting delivery to clients who have purchased apartments there.

But everyone was surprised by the collapse, which is considered mysterious, of the building in question. At this time, it is not yet known whether the incident caused casualties. However, by Wednesday, the caretaker was still nowhere to be found. It is feared that it will be buried in rubble. Efforts to find him continue, the newspaper points out.

Immediately after the incident, it continues Al Akhbar, various security services, local authorities and civil protection went to the field. They immediately started clearing the rubble, lifting tons of concrete in order to find the alleged victim who, according to witnesses, was sleeping on the construction site.

Referring to these same witnesses, the newspaper believes that the construction of this building should not have been approved by the municipal services, as well as by the Urban Planning Agency. The building is built on a mound and on ground that is known to be slippery. In order to prepare the construction site, the investor moved part of this mound, the newspaper explains. Moreover, the residents opposed this project, because the area was swampy and almost impassable as soon as it rained.

But, the newspaper points out, the builder defied everyone, including the owners of the neighboring land, insisting that he build his real estate project on this difficult land. This is despite the fact that this area was originally a plateau that until recently was a forest that stretched across the entire Rahrah and Mesnan area.

Despite everything, he was authorized. He is also the only one who, in an unexplained way, built this real estate project in the last two years without taking into account the nature of the land and the difficulties it presents.

According to the daily, the entrepreneur in question has already built other buildings on the site which are currently awaiting delivery. Which projects, the daily notes, do not include underground parking, which is often considered an indicator and proof of the stability of the ground on which the building is built. Which is why it is said every day that these residential buildings are threatened with demolition.
