It’s a good time to be an equity employee of Revolut. The fintech titan is reportedly preparing a secondary stock sale to raise $500 million and allow some of the company’s employees to cash out their shares. However, not all Revolut employees are paid in stock, so who will benefit the most?

Using Levels.fyi data, we’ve broken down Revolut’s total software engineer compensation from 2021, both globally and in London HQ, to see how many shares the average Revolut employee receives each year.
The results suggest that engineers with 0 to 3 years of experience are least likely to receive stock-based compensation, but when they do, it can represent a significant portion of their pay. Globally, junior engineers earn an average of $66.6K ($84.7K) in total compensation (TC) per year. When those engineers earn stock, it averages 21.2k per year. Average capital compensation is about 32% of average total compensation, but only a third of Revolut’s entry-level engineers received it.
Focusing specifically on London, the most experienced engineers, as might be expected, have the most stock; most engineers with 11 or more years of experience are paid in stock. In London, the average total fee is 157k and the share fee averages 76.7k, which is 49% of their TC.
It should be noted that compensation for shares is not unique. A Revolut engineer who earns $95k in TC and works in backend distributed systems claims to have received $31.6k in stock. An Android engineer from Revolut who was earning the same amount only got 1.2k in shares.
Still, winning shares is a sign of a well-paid Revolut engineer. Only one of the 25 highest-paid fintech engineers on Levels.fyi claims to have been paid exclusively in cash, with one engineer from London earning $140,000. The highest paid Revolut engineer on site was the Android Engineering Manager, with a TC of 231,000 and equity compensation of 102,000.
Company loyalty is also key to getting the most out of these share-based payouts, especially when concerns are raised about Revolut’s low average tenure. Only one engineer at the levels reported having worked at the company for five years or more, so many hyperloyal employees are unlikely to make millions.
