In November 2017, Apple introduced its facial recognition technology on the iPhone X. It is, as you know, FaceID, which has since become an essential security element of the Apple ecosystem. FaceID generally works well, but however, it may encounter certain limitations. However, these are very specific cases, which still deserve to be recorded.
iPhone no longer recognizes its owner after surgery
After recent facial surgery, the owner of the iPhone could no longer unlock it. The user in question shared his story on Reddit and further claimed that he was unable to reset it. FaceID did not recognize it, which is why the Apple phone is blocked. For a week, a man struggled to gain access to his iPhone:
I was ready to reset the whole iPhone, but I can’t even do that because after I enter my iPhone and iCloud passwords, it keeps asking me for FaceID.
He claims he has disabled Face ID before surgery, but that’s not enough, the functionality should have been completely removed according to the comment. Especially since it cannot disable protection against stolen devices, as it requires FaceID. The author therefore contacted Apple, which allegedly advised him to reset the iPhone, and that via his MacBook.
Horror makeup yes, mask yes, but no surgery?
Some netizens doubt the truth of the story. They believe the perpetrator has a stolen phone and is looking for a way to access it. However, the testimony seems coherent, but the truth is that it remains quite interesting.
This reminds us especially of the videographer iJustine, who had tried using FaceID with Halloween makeup very advanced, created with relief effects that completely change the appearance of the face. Conclusion: FaceID works well, even with this kind of makeup.
We also note that it recognizes a face wearing a mask, and that to our knowledge this is the first time a person has encountered a problem after surgery (this will be checked). Therefore, we understand the doubts of some with this testimony.
As for FaceID, the technology could be under the display not so long.
