Aiming to strengthen the cooperative ties between Côte d’Ivoire and Palestine, the Palestine Medical Week, launched by the Palestine International Cooperation Agency (PICA), opened its doors on the morning of Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Cocody University Hospital.
The opening ceremony of this Palestinian medical week was led by the Palestinian ambassador in Côte d’Ivoire, SEM Abdul Karim EWAIDA, with the help of prof. MOH Ella Nicolas, Medical and Scientific Director, representative of the Director General of the CHU in Cocody.
Palestinian Medical Week will be held from December 10 to 14, 2018 at Cocody University Hospital and will be marked by free surgical interventions offered to patients of this hospital center by Palestinian surgeons. At the opening of this work, the Palestinian ambassador, SEM Abdul Karim EWAIDA, gave the importance of this Palestinian medical program which is part of the strengthening of cooperation between the two states and which already takes into account justice and international law.
According to H.E. Abdul Karim EWAIDE, this medical program included several specialist doctors in the fields of orthopedics, dental surgery, ophthalmology and anesthesia.
It is a delegation composed of seven (7) professional Palestinian doctors with three (3) anesthesiologists and two (2) operating room nurses, headed by a medical coordinator and a representative of the Palestine International Cooperation Agency (PICA), who will share the Palestinian experience with to his colleagues at Cocody University Hospital during this week.
“We want to try to help our colleagues in the Ivory Coast, it is the least that must be done between friendly countries. However, we are not a donor country, we are a country under occupation, we want to show by all means that we stand with the people of Ivory Coast by providing our support in certain sectors of activity such as health, he said.
He further confided that even though it is under occupation, Palestine has a lot of practical experience in several fields such as health, agriculture, etc. arising from the skills of its large diaspora. This practical experience was also gained on the ground in the Palestinian context marked by war and its consequent medical emergencies, hence the emergence of emergency physicians specializing in surgery.
“It is an experience that we want to convey and share with the doctors at Cocody University Hospital, a multi-service hospital,” he concluded.
