Ten future factories will benefit from state support, some of which will play a role in the energy transition. These winners of the First Factory project competition, which opens in 2022 as part of the France 2030 plan, were revealed by the minister in charge of energy and industry, Roland Lescure, on May 23 at the VivaTech fair in Paris. They will distribute 42 million euros of public aid to strengthen industrialization in sectors of priority interest (materials, recycling, transport and agri-food) with high growth potential. This system financed the development of 66 industrial projects in the amount of 885 million euros in five years.
Among the ten new factories whose opening is thereby allowed in the coming months, four of them will affect decarbonization. Establishment of Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine), Energy Observer Developments (EODev) will produce, at its Defhy Athony (Hauts-de-Seine) plant, dihydrogen fuel cells (H2) to avoid conventional electrical generators. Factory Gravity established by the European consortium Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhne), relies on the production of pre-reduced iron ore (DRI) by replacing the natural gas or coal needed for the process with hydrogen dcarbon.
The Ballons project, located in Chavelot (Vosges), launched by a start-up called My Vosges, aims to develop wood pyrolysis technology for biocarbon productiona substitute for coal described as neutral – as opposed to biochar, whose carbon footprint is considered negative (ie it stores more carbon than its production process emits). Finally, the biogas sector will be accompanied by the next Puri-Fab plant, set up by Deltalys Saint-Fons (Rhne), which aims to produce filter media from the circular economy in order to exclude bacteria from biogas capture.
