A tributary of a famous Egyptian river may have flowed near the Egyptian pyramids, according to a new study.
It is often said that it is Egyptian pyramids are aligned. Indeed, seen from heaven, it looks as if they are following them route parallel to that of Nilesince it is the pyramids of Gizain the north, near Cairo, to those of Saqqara, then from Dahshur, in the center of the country, then towards those further south, to Licht. But, in reality, some of them are still quite isolated. And we wonder why the ancient Egyptians went so far into the desert to build them. A study has just revealed a new hypothesis about this mystery that has surrounded this phenomenon until now.
A tributary that perfectly outlines the curves of the pyramids
“Egypt’s largest field of pyramids is clustered in a narrow desert corridor, and yet no convincing explanation for this geographic concentration of monuments has been given so far.” summarize the researchers at communicated presenting his study published in the journal Nature Communications Earth and Environment. The fact that these gigantic monuments were built so far from the only known river allowed for the transport of materials and foodstuffs surprised a lot. But in reality, during the millennium in which it is 31 famous pyramidsit probably flowed right next to a tributary of the Nile, 64 km long leg, scientists today estimate.
New priorities of archaeological research projects?
This unknown river which would have existed 4700 years ago, baptized Ahramatit would be today completely swallowed by the desert, i.e. covered by agricultural land. These are satellite radar images which made it possible to discover the furrow of this ancient river passage, which was confirmed by observations, samples and analyzes carried out in the field. This discovery would also explain why this line of pyramids would be upside down the ancient capital of Memphis. Ahramat would separate the two, making it easier to merge one bank with another. In front of certain pyramids, we also found roads, which also seem to stop where the course of the river probably was. From new archaeological research projects therefore, it could have developed along this ancient tributary, which could have served to transport stones and other building materials over long distances.
