Water? Food? Investigations by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) are continuing in Pau (Atlantic Pyrénées-Atlantiques) to try to understand how around fifty students and six leaders fell mysteriously ill this weekend of May 25 and 26.
According to Republic of the Pyrenees, more than fifty students attending Bosquet School, in the east of the city, suffered from diarrhea and vomiting, and seven had to be taken to the pediatric emergency room. Six presenters also showed similar symptoms, although no serious cases were reported, ARS points out. The affected children belong to different levels of the school, the regional daily specifies.
“Since this weekend, everything has been done to try to find out what could have happened,” assures our colleagues from the City of Pau.
Analyzes in progress
Water and food are provided. The city has therefore carried out physical and chemical analyzes which have so far not provided any clarity. A bacteriological analysis was also carried out, the conclusions of which should be known within a week.
In order to “not take any risks”, the municipality delivered bottles of water to the institution. The canteen and sanitary facilities were also completely cleaned and disinfected.
Contacted Republic of the Pyrenees, a mother whose child “vomited all weekend” says she doesn’t want to send him back “right now.” Another parent laments the “lack of communication from the authorities” on the subject. “We received an e-mail from the principal on Sunday at noon, we did not contact them, there was no list of sick children, there are more than 50, that is obvious.”
