VivaTech is the place to be for fans of technology and original concepts. This year, the event brings together an anthology of innovations, each more surprising and sophisticated than the last. There are also startups working to improve, simplify or shake up our habits. For those who didn’t have the chance to go there, we have selected ten concepts and innovations that left a mark on us, while varying the pleasures!
1. Cars are out!
Elon Musk couldn’t go to Paris this year, but he still found a way to leave his mark on us. He simply sent a Tesla package with his favorite toy on the front: the Cybertruck. We’ve seen it in real life and it’s a monster! It has been sold across the Atlantic since autumn, but it has not yet been approved in Europe. It doesn’t matter to the rules, he will take his own Cybertruck around the old continent for two months, that’s a tour Cyber Odyssey. A true rock star.
One step away from Musk’s ship, a concept car Peugeot Beginning he has nothing to envy. Feline curves, premium materials and an original steering wheel. Gaming inspired, control interface Hypersquare looks like a controller. It has four round openings that house tactile and physical buttons, these controls replace the overloaded dashboard of classic cars. Other improvements, the vehicle has a range of 800 kilometers and ultra-fast, wireless charging of about 150 kilometers in five minutes!
2. Silent helicopter in the sky of Paris
At its stand, the ADP group presented an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft), manufactured by the German company Volocopter. From 2020, ADP actively participates in the development of electric aviation and new purposes, especially in the health and medical sector. Volocopter already worked with the equivalent of the German SAMU. ADP will in turn simulate, with the Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), three specific use cases: the transport of transplants and minor injuries and the movement of doctors to the scene of the accident. eVTOLs embody the carbon-free aviation of tomorrow: energy consumption and Carbon footprint reduced, not forgetting the significant reduction in noise pollution. Takeoffs are planned for this summer in Ile-de-France, the first in the world.
3. A mechanical cartoon hero to beautify hospitals
Miroki is a robot that looks like a cartoon character. His goal? We bring help and happiness to hospitals. His hands are designed to recognize special handles, so he can carry trays or push a cart. In addition, it moves easily thanks to the ball, which allows it to take up little space on the ground. Small connected tokens, placed in different places, give him information or instructions. So if the recorded message ” My name is Louis » and Louis puts the token in his pocket, Miroki they will know who it is for. He can actually hold a conversation thanks to generative artificial intelligence.
This little tech gem was created by a startup in Paris Enchanted tool. Its founder is none other than Jérôme Monceaux, co-creator of the Nao robot.
4. Table tennis trainers AI
Do you always forget your table tennis score? No more worries with IBM’s smart table tennis table. And even better, all the actions of the match will be analyzed. Sensors built into the rackets allow live scores and match data to be calculated. Speed and trajectory of the ball, number of backhands, forehands… but also information about the angle of attack. Generative AI then collects all this data to summarize the match. And that in a professional, constructive or even dramatic way! The goal? Give tips to the player to help him improve his game and advance in the competition.
This gadget is not made to go on the market. Above all, IBM wants to show, in a fun way and through sports, its capabilities in terms of artificial intelligence.
5. What does your personality smell like?
It is now possible to create a unique perfume thanks to artificial intelligence. Every Human, a Dutch startup, developedAlgorithmic perfumery. The concept is simple. The customer answers the questionnaire by scanning the QR code. Each answer is associated with a smell. If you prefer the countryside to the city or are more shy than social, you won’t get the same result. At the end, 3 scent options appear on the phone so you can choose the one you like better. It is made to measure and in real time! Your bottle is filled in front of you, thanks to a machine that contains 46 different bottles. The result: a 5 ml sample of perfume that matches his personality. A store has already opened in Breda, Holland.
6. Technology at the service of the visually impaired and blind
To help blind people navigate the streets, a Swiss startup, Bipodcreated a belt for mobility. NOAH, this is the name of this shoulder item. N for navigation, O for obstacle and A for artificial intelligence. The ultra-wide-angle camera, located on the left front of the chest, scans the environment in which the person is. As with an autonomous car, obstacles are announced by an audible signal in a Bluetooth headset connected to the system. The tone of the latter varies depending on the height of the obstacle: the more serious it is, the closer the potential danger is to the ground.
Technology goes even further. NOAH verbally describes what is around the visually impaired person. And it can even be guided by GPS! The armor is now available for sale.
A little further, stand from Tap 2 See offers a solution to help visually impaired and blind people experience sporting events as close to the action as possible. On the mini-soccer field, we transcribe the movement of the ball through a kind of pawn that moves automatically. Then vibrations are sent, each corresponding to a specific action (foul, offside, goal, etc.). An audio kit can also be connected to the tablet. The device has been present in certain stadiums in France for eight months.
7. AI that sorts your waste
AI also enables better sorting of waste and that’s it Suez who developed this concept. The company supplies customers with material ready for recycling, but they have complained about poor sorting quality. No control was actually carried out. This is where it comes into play Autodiag, a camera placed just above the sorting bar. The latter calculates the quality of waste grouping in real time. This makes it possible to check that there was no sorting error. Implemented at the beginning of 2023 in 4 Suez in France, the company wants to implement 4 new ones Autodiag briefly.
8. Breathe deeply with Bioteos
Did you know? : microalgae are the first producers of oxygen in the world and their photosynthesis is four times more “efficient” than that of trees. Biotheos knows this and uses microalgae to purify the air in closed spaces. The patented biological filter captures and metabolizes pollutants to sterilize the air. Two products marketed by the startup market are 100% made in France. Oxylon S it is reserved for spaces smaller than 200m², reception halls or cafeterias. Oxylon Urban it can cover areas larger than 400 m², shopping centers or workshops. It was specially tested on the metro platform in Lille.
9. Don’t throw away the bike, electrify it!
Instead of cutting off your arm to buy an electric bike, keep your old bike and give it a battery! This is a service offered by a French startup Reebike. It markets two ultra-simple electrification kits: a motorized front wheel and a more classic kit with a battery attached to the frame. Through the application, you adjust the intensity provided by the device. As part of their reintegration, Reebike trains people with disabilities in cycling occupations. They participate in the reconstruction of bicycles and their electrification. Committed to making its products accessible, the startup offers a service identical to that of an electric bike, for half the price!
10. Sports, wherever you want, whenever you want!
A sudden urge to go play basketball? Problem: you don’t have the ball… Don’t panic, there’s a solution! Equip is a startup that offers sports equipment rental. Roughly speaking, it participates in the dematerialization of sports or its Uberization, as you will. There is no need to buy, own or maintain your own equipment. Through its app, reserve your tennis rackets, your soccer ball or even your surfboard and collect them out of the box. After use, return your equipment, of course in its original condition and that’s it! The products made available are provided by Décathlon, which also helps the development of startups.
Already present in several cities in France, Equip is launching a large-scale operation on June 1 by installing 50 boxes near playgrounds in and around Paris.
